OK. Avon and Wayreth are on the right track... But personally i think these should be high slots...
Combining a couple of things. The main annoyance people have is travelling, and getting past gatecamps when they just want to travel.
The problem with instas is that they let you go fast without giving up something.. ie you can fight AND move fast.
Fine - make a new HIGH slot module - warp field enhancer.
It will take about 150cpu and 10 PG, for each one fitted it will double your warp speed, and half the warp in distance.
so, frigates can, with a lot of work and CPU co-processors, maybe fit 1 of these. (maybe give a bonus for some ships, like interceptors).
Most cruiser can fit one, most battleships can fit 2 or 3. And industrials can fit as many as they have high slots.
so: 1 fitted, 7500m warp in. 2x warp speed 2 fitted, 3750m warp in, 4x warp speed 3 fitted, 1875m warp in (insta) 8x warp speed.
These are CPU intensive, so when they are fitted you are not only giving up some high slots, but the ability to use other items. but they can be put offline, so a ship could still fight if needed and had some time.
but for those who need to travel from pt a to pt b, it lets you do so. the bigger industrials can use 2, and so be practically in jump range in a few moments.
If a ship really want to travel fast and safe - fit these high slot modules to get there fast, and fit nanofibres (or warp core stabilisers) to let you get away on the other side.
(another advantage, ships fitted with these can effectively run away faster as well, hence why i think interceptors should have a cpu discount for these modules, hep them catch up - and give a new role to intis)
Of course, bookmarks should be heavily nerfed at the same time - make bookmarks only able to be madeon large stable objects (stations, planets, gates etc) and not anywhere else. These modules would also help indi's warp into a belt, as they allow you to warp closer to whatever you are aiming at.
(of course, if you want them in low slots... sure, but still should have heavy CPU use to reduce ability to fit weapons - shouldn't be able to fight AND run... pick one and stick to it.) |
